Flag DV, a legal advice charity for victims of domestic violence and abuse has praised the legal and business communities of Reading and Newbury for supporting the second Reading Legal Walk on 21st September 2015.
The Vice President of the Law Society of England and Wales will lead the walk, highlighting the importance of free legal advice.
Reading Legal Walk is a sponsored 10k walk which already has 16 teams entered, all raising money to support free legal advice. For the poorest and the most vulnerable people in our community, access to justice is out of reach.
In 2014, the inaugural Reading Legal Walk saw 100 walkers raise £6,000 for Flag DV, the main beneficiary and other local charities providing free legal advice.
Flag DV provides specialist, confidential, family law advice to victims of domestic abuse without government or ongoing funding. This is a crucial service for the one in four women and one in six men who experience domestic abuse in their lifetime. People who experience domestic abuse often have complex legal needs and legal aid is only available to a few.
If you are experiencing or have experienced domestic violence or abuse and would like free legal advice on matters of family law, you can make an appointment at Flag DV’s Newbury based offices by calling West Berkshire Domestic Abuse Service from 10am – 4pm Monday to Saturday on 0800 731 0055.
It’s not too late to join the walk, for a pleasant afternoon stroll along the waterways of Reading!
